Saturday morning ritual

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Carmen dragged me to the farmers market this morning and I’m so glad she did.

There’s something about wandering between the stalls that makes everything feel more real somehow - like this is what Saturday mornings are supposed to be about.

The strawberry lady convinced me to buy two baskets because they were “peak season perfection” and honestly she wasn’t wrong. Then there was this girl about our age selling these amazing handmade soaps and we ended up talking for like twenty minutes about essential oils and whether lavender actually helps you sleep better.

She’s a sophomore at State studying chemistry and just started the soap thing as a side project.

It got me thinking about all these little communities that exist right under our noses. Like I’ve walked past this market probably a dozen times on my way to class but never actually stopped. Now I’m planning to come back next weekend - apparently the bread guy only shows up every other Saturday and Carmen says his cinnamon rolls are life-changing.

There’s something about buying strawberries from someone who grew them herself that just hits different than grabbing them from Harris Teeter, you know? Plus I have enough lavender soap to last until graduation.
