New Year, New Me (But Like, Actually This Time)

👩‍⚕️ Elena 👨‍💻 Marcus

So apparently it’s 2009 and I’m supposed to have my life together now? Cool cool cool.

Marcus and I spent New Year’s morning making coffee that tastes like disappointment and writing down resolutions we’ll probably forget by February. Mine include the obvious stuff - pass the NCLEX when I take it next year, get through senior year without a complete breakdown, maybe learn to cook something that isn’t ramen.

But then there’s the resolution I wrote down and immediately wanted to cross out: “Stop pretending I don’t like Marcus as much as I obviously do.” Because apparently NYE kisses at midnight make you write embarrassing truths in notebooks.

When I showed him the list this morning he got this stupid grin and said “So we’re making it official official?” and I may have thrown a dish towel at his face.

The truth is, watching him make terrible coffee in my kitchen at 9 AM on January 1st, wearing yesterday’s clothes and looking completely content to be here… yeah. This might be the year I stop fighting it. Resolution number one might have to be admitting I’m completely gone for this graphic design nerd. Don’t tell him I said that.
