One Year of Napkin Art
So apparently it’s been about a year since that fateful night at Mitch’s Tavern when I met this guy who was literally sketching logo concepts on cocktail napkins. I remember thinking ‘who brings work to a bar?’ and then spending the next forty-five minutes arguing with him about whether The National counts as ‘pretentious indie nonsense.’ (It does. Fight me.)

One Year of Napkin Art
Here we are, one year later, and absolutely nothing has changed. He still draws on napkins - today it’s some kind of geometric pattern that he swears will look amazing as wallpaper. I still pretend his music taste is questionable. Some things are sacred, you know?
But here’s the thing I didn’t expect: watching someone create something out of nothing, even if it’s just doodles on a Taco Bell napkin, never gets old. He gets this little crease between his eyebrows when he’s concentrating, and his tongue sticks out just slightly, and I’m sitting here like an absolute sap taking pictures of him drawing triangles. This is what my life has become and I’m weirdly okay with it.
Happy almost-anniversary to us, I guess. Here’s to many more years of napkin art and terrible music debates. Someone has to keep this man humble.
