Week 18: The Basketball Phase

👩‍⚕️ Elena 👨‍💻 Marcus

So I’ve officially become that girl. You know the one - the pregnant girl who documents every single week with bump photos and thinks everyone needs to see how her body is changing. I swore I wouldn’t do this. I rolled my eyes at girls who did this. And yet, here I am at 18 weeks, asking Marcus to take my picture next to the kitchen island because “the lighting is good there.”

Week 18: The Basketball Phase

Marcus has been so sweet about the whole thing. When I complained that I look like I swallowed a basketball, he said it was “a really beautiful basketball.” When I said I felt huge, he said I looked “perfectly pregnant.” The man has learned the right answers, bless him. Though I caught him googling “what to say to pregnant girlfriend” last week, so maybe it’s not all natural charm.

The truth is, I’m kind of amazed by what my body is doing right now. Like, there’s an actual tiny human in there with fingers and toes and everything, and somehow my body just… knows what to do? It’s wild. Also terrifying. Also incredible. Pregnancy emotions are fun, let me tell you. One minute I’m crying because Marcus ate the last orange, the next minute I’m crying because he bought me more oranges. Poor guy doesn’t know what hit him.

I promise I won’t do this every single week. (I’m lying. I’m totally going to do this every single week. Marcus, I’m sorry in advance.)
