First Day Jitters

👩‍⚕️ Elena

So today was the day - my first official shift as a nurse in the pediatric ward at UNC Rex. I put on my scrubs this morning and looked in the mirror and thought: you don’t look like a nurse, you look like a kid playing dress-up.

The irony hit me as I was getting ready to leave Sophie with my mom - I’m literally leaving my baby to go take care of other people’s babies. What kind of cosmic joke is that? But then a three-year-old threw up on me within my first hour and I handled it without even flinching, and I thought: okay, maybe I actually am a nurse. Marcus keeps telling me I’ve got this, and I think he might be right. Even if I did spend twenty minutes in the car before my shift giving myself a pep talk. We all start somewhere, right?
