So Marcus turned 25 today, and I had this whole plan. Homemade chocolate cake (his favorite), candles, the works. Sophie was going to sit on his lap and we’d get the cutest birthday photo ever.

Yeah, that’s not what happened. The second I put Sophie on his lap in front of that cake, she went full demolition mode. Face first, no hesitation. And Marcus? He just sat there grinning like this was exactly how he wanted to spend his birthday. Didn’t try to stop her, didn’t worry about the mess, just let our daughter destroy his cake with the patience of a saint.

This is the man who’s going to be my husband in seven months. The man who lets a nine-month-old eat cake with her entire face because her joy is more important than having a perfect birthday moment. The frosting in her eyebrows is still making me laugh three hours later. I love them both so much it hurts.
