We had such plans for Sophie’s first Fourth of July. Red, white and blue outfit? Check. Cute photo ops? Check. Staying past 7 PM at the neighborhood BBQ? Absolutely not, apparently.

The moment the first firework went off, Sophie made her feelings about America’s birthday celebration very clear. Marcus swept her up immediately while I grabbed our barely-touched potato salad and we made what I’m calling a ‘strategic retreat.’ Now we’re home, Sophie’s finally calm, and honestly? Sometimes the best family moments happen when plans go completely sideways. Next year we’re definitely investing in some baby-safe ear protection. Or maybe we’ll just celebrate from our living room window like the practical parents we’re apparently becoming.
