One Year Ago Today

Carmen was my maid of honor and cried through my entire getting-ready process (in the best way). Derek was Marcus’s best man and gave a speech that had everyone ugly-crying by the end. And Sophie? Our sixteen-month-old flower girl was supposed to walk down the aisle scattering petals like some Pinterest dream. Instead, Abuela Rosa carried her the whole way while Sophie mostly crawled and looked confused about why everyone was staring at her. It was perfect.

I walked toward him and he started crying before I even got there. Our vows were beautiful - his were funnier, mine were more sincere, and we’ll argue about this forever. The first dance was supposed to be this romantic moment, and then he stepped on my dress and we both burst out laughing.

Looking at our favorite photo - the one where everything went perfectly wrong

That’s our favorite photo right there. The one where it all goes wrong and we don’t care. That’s us.

Sitting here tonight with these photos spread out on our coffee table, watching Sophie try to eat a wedding invitation, I can’t believe it’s only been a year. It feels like yesterday and forever all at once. Best day of my life, hands down. Even with my flower girl trying to escape mid-ceremony.
