Precision brewing

Carmen arrived this morning with her grandmother’s French press and very specific opinions about water temperature. Apparently my usual method of “dump grounds, add hot water, hope for the best” wasn’t going to cut it.

She had me timing the steep with her phone while she monitored the water like it was a chemistry experiment. Four minutes exactly, then the slowest plunge I’ve ever witnessed. I kept wanting to rush it, but she kept stopping my hand. “Patience, Elena. The coffee knows when it’s ready.”

Turns out precision pays off. This is definitely not my usual bitter morning fuel. Carmen’s already planning tomorrow’s lesson on grinding techniques, and honestly, I’m looking forward to it. There’s something satisfying about doing something properly from start to finish, even if it’s just coffee.
