Carmen came over to help me organize my disaster of a music collection, but the moment I showed her how my phone connects to Jake’s TV speakers through Bluetooth, she completely lost her mind.

Suddenly she’s conducting an invisible orchestra to Kelly Clarkson while my phone sits in her palm like some kind of magical remote control.

I’m watching her dig through my iTunes library like she’s discovered buried treasure.

The archaeological dig through my music collection begins.

She’s comparing every song on my phone to the stack of CDs we pulled out of storage, making these elaborate categorized playlists for different moods. “Elena, you have THREE different versions of the same Beyoncé song. This is chaos. Beautiful, beautiful chaos.”

Turns out Carmen is one of those people who needs to understand exactly how technology works before she can enjoy it. She spent twenty minutes asking me to explain how the music gets from my phone to the speakers without wires. I tried to sound smart about wireless signals, but honestly I just press the little Bluetooth button and hope for magic.

Now she’s demanding I teach her how to set this up at her place. Pretty sure I’ve created a monster.
