Michelle showed up this afternoon with a bag of flour and grand plans to teach me how to make fresh pasta from scratch. “How hard can it be?” she said. Famous last words.

Two hours later, my kitchen looks like a flour bomb went off and we have what can generously be called “rustic” fettuccine. Michelle kept insisting we just needed to roll it thinner, but apparently there’s a difference between rolling dough and beating it into submission with a rolling pin.

That's supposed to be fettuccine.

That’s supposed to be fettuccine.

The pasta we finally managed to cook was… well, let’s just say Jake took one look and ordered pizza instead. But honestly? I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks. Sometimes the best part of trying something new isn’t succeeding at it.

Michelle’s already planning our next cooking adventure. I’m thinking we start with something that doesn’t require a rolling pin.
