So I have this Pinterest board called ‘Creekwood Dreams’ with exactly 427 pins of perfectly styled homes with floating shelves and gallery walls that look like they were installed by actual professionals.

Marcus offered to hang one shelf. One. ‘How hard can it be?’ he said. Famous last words. Two hours later, we have what he’s calling ‘rustic charm’ and I’m calling ‘visible evidence that we should have hired someone.’ The level says it’s crooked. My eyes say it’s crooked. Marcus says it has character.

The good news is our IKEA furniture fits perfectly with the overall aesthetic of ‘we tried.’ The bad news is I still have 426 more Pinterest dreams and only one Marcus. This is going to take a while.

At least the kids think Daddy’s shelf is ‘special.’ Theo keeps pointing at it and giggling. Even at one year old, he knows something’s off.
