Five Years
We went back to the Merrimon-Wynne House tonight for our fifth anniversary dinner. Same place we got married, same nervous energy from Marcus, same habit of mine to wear something suspiciously similar to what I wore when we were dating. Some things never change.

Five Years
He’s still drawing on napkins. I’m still pretending I don’t think it’s the most adorable thing in the world. Five years ago I thought I was marrying this sweet, slightly awkward graphic designer who made me laugh. Turns out I was marrying my best friend, my co-parent, and the person who still looks at me like I hung the moon even when I haven’t showered in two days and Theo has been screaming for an hour.

Still drawing on napkins after all these years
We left the kids with Marcus’s parents for the night - Sophie was thrilled to have Grandpa Ted read her stories, and Theo actually went down without a fight for Grandma Patty. Sometimes I forget we’re still just Elena and Marcus underneath all the diaper changes and bedtime routines. Tonight reminded me we are, and we’re pretty great at it.
Five years. Two kids. One house. Zero regrets. Here’s to the next five years of him drawing on napkins and me pretending I’m too cool to care.
