Sometimes the best parts of holidays aren’t the big planned events. It’s Sophie confidently writing her name in sparkler cursive in the backyard while Theo holds his at arm’s length like it might attack him.

Sophie’s gotten so brave this summer - gymnastics practice is paying off in more ways than just her backflips. And Theo, my cautious little dinosaur expert, is trying so hard to be like his big sister even when those sparklers are clearly terrifying him.

Marcus spent twenty minutes explaining sparkler safety to a two-year-old who mostly just wanted to know if they were hot like lava. The answer, for the record, is yes Theo, they are hot like lava, which is why we hold them far away from our faces.
