Estate sale archaeology
Sarah knocked on my door this afternoon with a cream-colored box under her arm and the kind of grin that means she either found treasure or made a terrible decision. Turns out Mrs. Henderson from Maple Street had an estate sale today, and Sarah walked away with what she’s calling ‘a genuine vintage bread keeper.’

We spent twenty minutes trying to figure out how the latch mechanism works before realizing there’s an instruction pamphlet tucked inside. In German. Because apparently bread storage was serious business in 1960s Bavaria.

I’m not sure either of us actually needs a dedicated bread box, but there’s something satisfying about rescuing old things from estate sales. Plus Sarah paid eight dollars for it, which feels like either a steal or exactly what a broken bread box should cost. We’re going with steal.
