Salt water therapy

Carmen convinced me to try surfing today. Apparently watching me struggle with basic human coordination sounded like quality entertainment to her. She wasn’t wrong.

Spent four hours getting absolutely demolished by waves that other people were gracefully riding like it was nothing. I managed to stand up exactly twice, both times for roughly three seconds before face-planting spectacularly into the water. My shoulders feel like I’ve been wrestling with concrete, and I’m pretty sure there’s seaweed in places seaweed should never be.

But here’s the weird part - I loved every minute of it. Something about the total focus required, the way everything else just disappeared when I was out there trying not to drown. Even the failures felt… freeing? Like permission to be completely terrible at something without it mattering.

Sand. Everywhere. Still finding it three hours later.

Jake’s already researching beginner surf lessons for next weekend. I think he enjoyed watching me get humbled by the ocean a little too much. Worth it for the post-surf nap though. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that remind you how much you don’t know.
