Marcus announced this morning that he was taking me out tonight. Not Applebee’s with the kids (though we love that chaos too), but actual grown-up dinner at an actual restaurant where they don’t give you crayons.

I spent an embarrassing amount of time getting ready. Hair, makeup, the works. When I came downstairs, Marcus just stopped and stared. That’s when he dropped the line about me being more beautiful than the day we met. I played it cool with my ‘obviously’ response, but internally? Full heart-eyes emoji.

Last minute touch-ups before our first real date night in months

We haven’t done this in months. Between my shifts at the hospital and his work deadlines, plus Sophie’s gymnastics and Theo’s everything, date nights have been ‘let’s order pizza after the kids go to bed.’ But tonight we’re remembering we’re not just mom and dad - we’re Elena and Marcus, the people who used to stay up until 2 AM talking about everything and nothing.

Now if I can just make it through dinner without getting mashed potatoes on this dress.
