Tea and truth telling
Sarah came over around 2 PM with this specific look that meant she had Thoughts about my recent life choices. You know the one - eyebrows slightly raised, the way she holds her mouth when she’s trying to figure out if she should say the thing or let me figure it out myself.

Tea and truth telling
We ended up on the living room floor with tea because apparently this required the full ceremonial treatment. “So,” she said, settling cross-legged across from me, “you booked the flight to see Abuela Rosa and now you’re having feelings about it.” Not a question. Sarah has this way of cutting straight through to the thing I’m dancing around.
Turns out I am having feelings about it. Big ones. The heritage keeper training isn’t just learning recipes - it’s accepting this huge family responsibility that’s been waiting for me for years. Sarah listened while I worked through all the ways I’ve been preparing for everything except actually being ready for this moment.

The way she just lets me talk through my own chaos until it makes sense is exactly why I needed her here today.
Jake captured us mid-conversation from the doorway, probably thinking we looked like we were solving the mysteries of the universe. Which, honestly, we kind of were. Sometimes you need your friend to help you see that being nervous about something important just means it actually matters to you.
