So Sophie asked me to drive her to Target yesterday, which usually means I’m dropping her off and waiting in the car. But instead she said ‘want to come in with me?’ and I tried not to look too eager saying yes.

We spent an hour going through the makeup aisles and she actually asked for my opinion on lip glosses. Then her friend Madison showed up and Sophie introduced me as ‘my bestie Elena’ and I about died. I played it so cool on the outside while internally screaming with joy.

Later we came home and did a full skincare routine together with our new products. She borrowed my oversized sweater and I borrowed her lip gloss and for a moment we felt less like mom and daughter and more like… friends. I’m trying not to get too attached to this phase because I know how quickly things change with teenagers, but right now I’m just soaking it all in.
