Double Digits
Theo turned ten today and the first thing he said was ‘Mom, double digits means I’m basically an adult now.’ I looked at this kid who still sleeps with a stuffed stegosaurus named Stanley and wears dinosaur slippers to breakfast, and I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing.

Double Digits
We did the whole birthday production - dinosaur cake (obviously), candles that took Marcus three tries to light, and Biscuit wearing a party bandana that he immediately tried to eat. Theo blew out his candles and wished for ‘a real fossil’ which is the same thing he’s wished for since he was five. Some things never change, thank God.
Later I found him doing homework at the kitchen island like it was any other Monday, because apparently being ‘basically an adult’ means you still have to finish your math worksheets.

Ten years old and still does homework at the kitchen island like always
He looked up at me and said, ‘Being ten is harder than I thought. Can I go back to nine?’ Sorry buddy, you’re stuck with us in the double digits now.
