Meanwhile, I’ve got three different highlighters (two of them dried out), notes written on the backs of receipts, and what I think might be last week’s grocery list mixed in with my patient care protocols. She doesn’t say anything, but I catch her reorganizing my mess while I’m making coffee.

“You know there are apps for this, right?” she says, pulling out her tablet with the most beautiful study guide I’ve ever seen. Clean fonts, perfect spacing, actual bullet points that make sense. I show her my chicken scratch notes and she just nods very politely.
