Anti-Valentine's becomes pro-friendship

Started the day planning to ignore Valentine’s Day completely, but Sarah had other ideas. She texted this morning asking if we wanted to do a ‘Singles and Couples Solidarity Potluck’ at her place tonight. Apparently she’d been planning this for weeks and forgot to mention it.

Turns out when you put five people in charge of bringing food, you get three different Thai takeout orders, Carmen’s homemade heart-shaped cake, and Jake’s contribution of ‘really good wine that I definitely didn’t just grab from the gas station.’

Carmen insisted on doing the honors with cake cutting duty.

The cake was actually amazing though – Carmen’s been holding out on us with her baking skills.

Michelle brought her guitar and we spent an hour trying to remember all the words to songs from high school. Jake kept insisting he knew how to harmonize and kept proving he absolutely does not. Best Valentine’s Day I’ve had in years, and I wasn’t even trying to have one.

Sometimes the best celebrations are the ones that sneak up on you.
