Official shift number one
The polo shirt feels different when it’s actually your job. I’ve been volunteering at the rec center for months, but today I clock in for real.

Official shift number one
Jake left early for his marketing internship, so it’s just me and my nerves having breakfast together.
Spent way too much time this morning going over the staff handbook again.

Last minute cramming of pool safety protocols
I know the pool safety protocols backwards by now, but apparently my brain thinks if I read them seventeen more times, I’ll magically transform into the most competent lifeguard who ever lived. The funny thing is, I’ve been doing this work since October - just not getting paid for it.
The schedule worked out better than I expected. My shifts don’t overlap with any of my nursing prerequisite classes, and I can still keep my Tuesday and Friday blog posts going. Michelle’s training sessions are flexible enough that we can work around everything. It’s like all the pieces are finally clicking into place, which makes me suspicious that something’s about to go spectacularly wrong.
Wish me luck. If you don’t hear from me by tonight, check the pool - I probably fell in while trying to look professional.
