Digital doorways

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Sarah texted me this afternoon asking if I’d be interested in joining her Thursday evening running group. Nothing unusual there - we’ve talked about running together before. But then she mentioned she’d been reading my blog posts about the campus fitness challenge, and how a couple people in her group had asked about joining something more structured.

It’s funny how writing about your life online can create these unexpected bridges. I started this blog mostly to work through my own thoughts about nursing school, fitness goals, random daily chaos. But somehow it’s become this way of connecting with people I might never have really talked to otherwise.

Deep in thought mode.

Deep in thought mode.

Sarah and I have been friends for a while, but I don’t think we would have discovered our shared interest in structured training plans if I hadn’t been writing about mine. Now there’s this whole group of people who want to train together, and it all started because I documented my struggle with Alex’s competitive intensity during our team workouts.

I think I’m going to say yes to the Thursday group. The guest writing thing for the running store is already pushing me outside my comfort zone - might as well keep the momentum going. Plus, after dealing with Alex’s over-the-top approach to fitness challenges, a group that Sarah describes as ‘supportive but not insane’ sounds pretty perfect.
