Three weeks of emails, printed reservation confirmations, my color-coded lists, Jake’s single notebook page with bullet points. The contrast is almost funny.

What struck me wasn’t that we plan differently - I knew that already. It’s how we navigate disagreement. I make spreadsheets and research reviews until I convince myself I’ve found the “right” answer. Jake talks it through out loud, changes his mind three times, then commits completely to whatever we decide together.

Watching him sort through my organized chaos this afternoon, I realized something. My need to control every detail isn’t really about the trip. It’s about feeling secure in the decision. His willingness to go with the flow isn’t carelessness - it’s trust. In me, in us, in the fact that we’ll figure it out together regardless of which mountain town we pick.

Turns out planning a weekend getaway teaches you more about your relationship than the actual weekend might. Who knew paperwork could be so revealing?
