Three weeks of inconsistent heating turned into the most telling relationship test we’ve had yet. Not because of the cold showers or extra blankets, but because of how we handled it together.

I’m the one who calls the landlord immediately. Jake’s the one who wants to YouTube seventeen different solutions first. Turns out we needed both approaches - my urgency got us the replacement parts, his patience actually got the thing working.

We’ve been living together eight months now and I thought I knew our dynamic. But nothing reveals your partnership style quite like a domestic crisis at 6am when the heat’s broken and you both have early commitments. We’re better at this than I expected. Even when I’m stressed and he’s overthinking, we still end up laughing about it over coffee while he reads the manual aloud in dramatic voices.

Turns out the thermostat just needed a firmware update. Who knew appliances had trust issues too.
