First official shift at the rec center starts in an hour, and I’ve been awake since five going over the training manual Michelle left for me. Turns out knowing how to work out and knowing how to teach others to work out safely are completely different skill sets.

Jake made coffee before he left for work and spread all my anatomy flashcards across the kitchen counter like some kind of motivational shrine. Sweet gesture, but now I’m staring at muscle diagrams while trying to memorize which forms need signatures and which equipment requires spot checks.

My brain is already doing that thing where it tries to categorize everything - is this a nursing skill or a fitness skill? Plot twist: it’s both.

The real challenge isn’t going to be learning the ropes at work. It’s figuring out how to fit eight-hour shifts around microbiology lab schedules without my brain completely melting. Carmen texted me good luck with way too many exclamation points, which somehow made me feel both better and more nervous. Here goes nothing.
