Planning styles and partnership

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Three cups of coffee deep and I’m still processing everything about our anniversary weekend planning.

Not the actual trip—that was amazing—but what the whole process revealed about how Jake and I operate as a team.

Turns out I’m the spreadsheet person and he’s the ‘let’s just see what happens’ person. Which sounds obvious until you’re trying to book a mountain cabin and one of you wants three backup options researched by Tuesday while the other is perfectly content calling places the day before. We eventually found our rhythm, but not without some eye-opening moments about our different approaches to basically everything.

Coffee and contemplation.

Coffee and contemplation.

The funny thing is, it worked. His spontaneity balanced out my need to plan every detail, and my organization kept us from ending up stranded without reservations. Maybe that’s what good partnerships are—not finding someone who does everything the same way you do, but someone whose strengths fill in your gaps.

Still keeping that spreadsheet though. Color-coded tabs aren’t going anywhere.
