What planning teaches you
Finally closed my notebook after three weeks of anniversary planning, and honestly? The whole process taught me more about Jake and me than I expected.

What planning teaches you
I’m the spreadsheet person. I research restaurants, compare hotel reviews, make backup plans for the backup plans. Jake’s the “let’s just see what happens” guy who somehow always lands us in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment.
For three weeks I stressed about getting everything perfect while he kept saying “whatever you pick will be great.” At first that drove me crazy – like, participate in your own anniversary planning, please? But watching him light up when I showed him the final itinerary, I realized he wasn’t being lazy. He was trusting me to create something amazing because he knows I love doing it.

Lost in thought and finally making sense of everything.
We’ve been together long enough now that I can see our patterns clearly. I plan, he adapts. I research, he experiences. I worry about logistics, he focuses on the moment we’re in. Neither approach is wrong – they’re actually pretty perfect together.
Turns out anniversary planning is just relationship planning in miniature. Who knew three weeks of hotel comparisons could be so enlightening?
