Turns out three hours of anniversary planning teaches you more about your relationship than three years of regular life. Jake and I finally nailed down our mountain weekend, but the process was… illuminating.

He approaches decisions like he’s defusing a bomb - methodical, careful, weighing every possible outcome. I’m more of a ‘book the first cute cabin and figure it out’ person. Watching him research seventeen different hiking trails while I’m ready to just drive until we see mountains was both maddening and oddly endearing.

What surprised me was how naturally we found our rhythm once we stopped trying to plan the same way. He handled logistics, I handled the vision. He researched restaurants, I picked the vibe. By the time we ordered pad thai for dinner, we had a weekend that actually felt like us instead of some compromise neither of us wanted.

Mission accomplished - sort of.

Sometimes I think we learn the most about each other when we’re stressed about deadlines and surrounded by takeout containers. Who knew planning could be this revealing?
