The anatomy of overthinking

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Found myself sitting on the living room floor this afternoon, surrounded by what Jake diplomatically called my “planning explosion.” Three notebooks, two different colored pens, sticky notes in a rainbow of priorities, and a printed backup itinerary because what if my phone dies?

Looking at it all spread out like this, I had to laugh. This is how my brain works - every detail mapped, contingencies planned, backup plans for the backup plans. Meanwhile, Jake’s contribution to our anniversary weekend planning was literally a single Post-it note that said “mountains, good food, us.” And somehow that captured everything I’d spent weeks organizing.

The funny thing is, we both got exactly where we needed to be. My lists gave us structure and his simplicity kept us focused on what actually mattered. Turns out our different planning styles aren’t a bug - they’re a feature. He keeps me from disappearing into logistics hell, and I make sure we don’t end up sleeping in the car because nobody booked a room.

Still keeping all the sticky notes though. Some habits die hard.
