Crisis archaeology
Cleaning out my school bag and found this crumpled piece of paper with Jake’s handwriting: ‘Elena - called landlord, left voicemail. Made coffee. You’re handling this better than I would. -J’

Crisis archaeology
I’d completely forgotten about this note from when our heating went out last winter. I was stressed about exams and the apartment was freezing and Jake just… handled things. Left me this note so I wouldn’t worry about calling the landlord myself when I got home.

Jake’s handwriting: ‘Elena - called landlord, left voicemail. Made coffee. You’re handling this better than I would. -J’
Looking at it now, I realize this little scrap of paper captures something I’ve been too busy to notice. Not just that Jake steps up during crises - though he absolutely does - but how he does it. No drama, no expecting credit, just quiet competence and this gentle confidence that we’ll figure it out together.
Keeping this one. Some discoveries are worth remembering when life gets overwhelming again.
