Crisis management aftermath

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Been sitting with the aftermath of our heating situation for a few days now, and honestly? The whole thing taught me more about Jake and me than I expected.

Not the crisis itself - nobody learns anything profound from frozen pipes except that landlords have terrible timing. But watching how we handled it together, the way we fell into this rhythm of problem-solving without stepping on each other’s toes. Jake researching repair videos while I called around for emergency services. Me handling the landlord drama while he set up the space heaters strategically. No territorial weirdness, no ‘let me handle this’ energy. Just… partnership.

Found one of his little notes from that week stuck between couch cushions today - “coffee ready, heating guy comes at 2, you’ve got this.” Such a small thing, but it hit me how naturally he thinks about making my day easier without making a production of it.

Turns out domestic life suits us better than I thought it would. Who knew that surviving a February heating emergency together could feel like a relationship milestone? Not the romantic kind you put on anniversaries, but the real kind that actually matters when you’re building a life with someone.
