Evidence of overthinking

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Cleaning out my desk drawer and found the planning notes from our anniversary weekend.

Evidence of overthinking

Evidence of overthinking

Three different color-coding systems. A spreadsheet for restaurant pros and cons. Backup plans for the backup plans. Jake saw this chaos and just said “whatever you pick will be perfect” which at the time made me want to shake him.

But looking at it now?

Three different highlighter colors for restaurant options. What was I thinking.

This wasn’t really about finding the perfect weekend. This was me trying to control something because nursing school has me feeling like I’m always one step behind. The planning gave me something I could actually master while everything else felt overwhelming.

Jake knew that. He didn’t need the color-coded itinerary or the detailed backup scenarios. He just needed me to feel like I had it handled. Sometimes the most supportive thing someone can do is let you overthink in peace and then show up ready for whatever you’ve decided.

The weekend was great, by the way. We ended up scrapping half the schedule and just wandering around that little mountain town. But having the plan made it possible to let it go.
