Vertical learning curve
Carmen dragged me to Triangle Rock Club this afternoon with zero warning. Just showed up at my door with climbing shoes in two different sizes and announced we were trying something new. I’ve been avoiding anything that might mess with my running training, but she had that look in her eyes that means resistance is futile.

Vertical learning curve
Turns out rock climbing is nothing like what I expected. I thought it would be all upper body strength, but it’s more like a puzzle you solve with your whole body. Carmen made it look effortless on her first route while I clung to the wall like a very determined starfish. The guy belaying me kept shouting encouragement that mostly sounded like “you’re not gonna die, probably!”
My forearms are absolutely destroyed and I have chalk under my fingernails, but I’m already googling gym membership prices.

Post-climb hand inspection - we’re both going to be sore tomorrow
Carmen says this is what happens to everyone after their first time - you either never come back or you become completely obsessed. Based on how my brain is already strategizing different routes, I think I know which category I’m falling into.
Who knew being terrified fifteen feet off the ground could be this addictive? My anatomy textbook is gonna have to wait until I can actually grip a pen again.
