Letter day

👩‍⚕️ Elena

The envelope was thin. I almost threw it away thinking it was junk mail. Thank god Jake grabbed it from the counter this morning and actually looked at the return address.

Letter day

Spring 2012. Nursing program. I’m in. After three semesters of prerequisites, anatomy flashcards covering every surface of this apartment, and Jake finding me asleep on my textbooks more nights than I can count, it’s actually happening. The letter says I’m one of forty-two students accepted out of over two hundred applicants.

Reading it for the fourth time today

I keep staring at the letterhead like it might disappear. All those late nights in the library, all those study groups where I felt like I was drowning, all those moments I wondered if I was smart enough for this - turns out I was ready all along. Jake’s bringing home Thai food tonight to celebrate. Carmen’s already texting me in all caps. Sometimes the best days are the quiet ones where everything just clicks into place.
