Kitchen physics

Alex knocked on the door this afternoon looking for Jake’s thermodynamics textbook. Simple enough request, right? Twenty minutes later he’s gesturing wildly over our breakfast bar, drawing invisible diagrams in the air and explaining why time might actually be an illusion.

I made the mistake of asking one innocent question about quantum mechanics. ONE. Now there are three textbooks spread across our kitchen counter and Alex is deep into something about particles existing in multiple states simultaneously. I’m pretty sure he’s forgotten why he came over in the first place.

The moment it got serious.

The moment it got serious.

Jake walked in during the middle of Alex’s explanation about Schrödinger’s cat and just started laughing. “Did you ask him about homework again?” Apparently this happens more often than I realized. Alex gets excited about physics the way Carmen gets excited about new workout gear - it’s actually kind of endearing.

The textbook borrowing mission was eventually successful, but not before I learned more about quantum entanglement than I ever thought I needed to know. Our kitchen counter now looks like a physics lab exploded on it.
