Window shopping
Sarah came over to review my guest post draft, but we got completely sidetracked by this orange tabby who appeared on our fire escape around 2pm. At first he was just sitting there, very dignified, like he was conducting some kind of apartment inspection.

Window shopping
Sarah spotted him first and went full Disney princess mode. I’ve never seen her get so excited about anything that wasn’t running-related. She started making those little kissy noises through the glass, and I swear this cat understood every word of her ridiculous baby talk.
Twenty minutes later, I’m the one sitting on the kitchen counter with the window open, having what Jake calls a “meaningful conversation” with our new buddy.

And then he decided Elena looked trustworthy enough for a proper introduction.
He’s got this white patch on his chest that looks like a tiny bow tie, and the most judgmental green eyes I’ve ever seen on any species. Sarah’s convinced he’s evaluating whether we’re worthy of his friendship.
We never did finish going over that blog post. Sometimes the best writing advice is knowing when to put the laptop away and pay attention to what’s happening right in front of you. Even if it’s just a cat who thinks our fire escape makes an excellent afternoon perch.
