Gravity wins

Carmen has been bugging me for weeks to try the new climbing gym downtown. I kept making excuses because honestly? Heights and I have an understanding - I stay down here, they stay up there, everyone’s happy.

But she wore me down, and this afternoon we went.

This is me thirty minutes later, questioning every life choice that led to this moment. Turns out there are muscles in my forearms I never knew existed, and now they’re staging a revolt.

Carmen kept trying to show me ‘proper technique’ while I clung to the wall like a terrified cat. She made it look so easy, just flowing up the routes like gravity was optional. Meanwhile I’m pretty sure I set a record for most creative ways to fall off a beginner wall.

Jake made dinner while I recovered on the floor. Tomorrow Carmen wants to go back. I told her I’d think about it, which is code for ‘ask me again when I can lift my arms above my head.’
