Five

Sophie turned five today and I’m not ready. Five years ago she made me a mom. Now she makes me cry at birthday cakes and tries to curl up in my lap even though her legs hang over both sides. I let her anyway.

We had the whole production - pink streamers, princess plates, way too much cake. Her friends came over and screamed about everything for three hours. It was perfect chaos. Theo slept through the entire party because apparently four-month-olds have their priorities straight.

Theo slept through his sister’s entire birthday party. Professional baby move.

Kindergarten starts in September. My baby is becoming a big kid and I’m having feelings about it. She still wants to hold my hand crossing the street but now she asks me to paint her nails. She’s caught between little girl and big girl and I want to freeze this exact moment forever.

Five years of being Sophie’s mom. Best job I’ve ever had.
