Rolling in the deep end of embarrassment

Michelle showed up two hours early for our Adele concert prep, armed with a bottle of wine and zero shame about her vocal abilities. Within thirty minutes, my living room had transformed into some kind of tragic karaoke bar where we were both belting out ‘Someone Like You’ like our lives depended on it.

I don’t know what possessed us to think dramatic hand gestures would improve our performance, but there we were, giving it our full Broadway treatment. Michelle was doing this thing where she’d close her eyes and tilt her head back during the high notes, and I was over here trying to match Adele’s runs and failing spectacularly.

Turns out Jake had been recording from the kitchen for at least five minutes before we noticed. The look of pure horror on our faces when we spotted his phone was priceless.

The moment we realized Jake was recording our 'Someone Like You' duet.

Michelle immediately tried to claim it was ‘vocal warm-ups for the real concert,’ but we both know we peaked right there in my living room.

If tonight’s actual Adele concert is half as entertaining as our pregame show, we’re in for a treat. Though I’m pretty sure the wine helped with our confidence levels.
