Treasure hunting with purpose

Alex showed up at 8am with a thermos of coffee and a printed list of garage sale addresses. Apparently he’s been tracking Craigslist postings all week like some kind of weekend warrior bargain hunter. I was still in my pajamas wondering why anyone voluntarily gets up early on Saturday.

But there’s something infectious about his enthusiasm. He’s got this whole strategy mapped out – start with the estate sales first because they have the good stuff, hit the multi-family ones before they get picked over, and always check out sales in the nicer neighborhoods because ‘people get rid of quality things they barely used.’ Who knew yard sale shopping required this much tactical planning?

Two hours later and we’ve got a decent haul. Alex found some vintage camera equipment for his latest photography experiment, and I scored a barely-used slow cooker that Carmen’s been telling me I need.

Ready for treasure hunting.

Plus I discovered that wandering through strangers’ driveways while judging their life choices is surprisingly entertaining. Alex keeps making up backstories for why people are selling things, and his running commentary had me laughing at every stop.

Jake thinks we’re both crazy for spending our Saturday this way, but honestly? Sometimes the best adventures happen when you say yes to someone else’s random idea. Even if that idea involves getting up before 9am on the weekend.
