The Couch is School Now

🎭 Sophie 🦕 Theo 👩‍⚕️ Elena

Well, here we are. Sophie officially started 5th grade this morning on a laptop. Theo started kindergarten on an iPad. I started my new career as a homeschool coordinator slash IT support slash snack distributor, all from our living room couch.

Sophie handled the transition like a champ - she’s always been good with technology and adapted to the virtual classroom pretty quickly. Theo, on the other hand, spent the first ten minutes trying to pet his teacher through the screen and asking why she was “living in the rectangle.” His teacher, bless her heart, just rolled with it.

Marcus is working from his office upstairs, probably listening to me explain for the fifteenth time that “yes, you need to unmute yourself to talk” and “no, you cannot show your dinosaurs to the class right now.” The couch has officially become our classroom, dining room, and my new office. I’m calling it adaptive architecture.

Sending love to all the parents navigating this brave new world of education. We’re all just figuring it out as we go, one Zoom meeting at a time.
