We spent the better part of an hour with me explaining portrait mode while she took approximately fifty photos of my coffee mug from every conceivable angle. She kept getting frustrated when the background didn’t blur the way she wanted, until suddenly something clicked.

Victory dance commenced immediately
Now she’s texting me photos of literally everything in her apartment with perfectly blurred backgrounds. Her houseplant. Her breakfast. Her reflection in the bathroom mirror. I created a monster.
Jake came home to find us both sprawled on the floor comparing iPhone photography techniques. He just shook his head and made us all grilled cheese. Smart man knows not to interrupt a technology breakthrough in progress.
