Home kiln dreams
Margaret mentioned firing techniques at class Tuesday and somehow I convinced myself I could figure out a home setup. Spent the afternoon with three library books, YouTube tutorials, and what can only be described as ambitious optimism.

Home kiln dreams
Turns out there’s a reason pottery studios exist. Also turns out my dining room table is not, in fact, the ideal workspace for centering clay. Jake’s going to come home to what looks like a ceramic crime scene.

Reality vs. expectation
The book makes it look so simple. My version looks like it was thrown by a toddler having an existential crisis. But Margaret always says the clay teaches you patience, so I’m calling this a very thorough lesson.
Back to the studio tomorrow. Some things are worth leaving to the professionals and proper kilns.
