Twenty-One
So Marcus surprised me tonight. I thought we were just going to grab pizza and maybe catch a movie, but when I got to his place there were candles lit and he’d actually cooked. Real food. With vegetables and everything.

Twenty-One
I put on the green dress I bought for Carmen’s engagement party but never wore because I was too nervous. Tonight felt different though. I looked in the mirror and for the first time in maybe ever, I didn’t immediately find something wrong. I looked good. I know I looked good. I’m allowed to say that, right?
Marcus kept taking pictures all night and usually I’m like ‘stop, I look terrible’ but tonight I just… let him. Maybe this is what twenty-one is supposed to feel like. Maybe this is what growing up actually means - not apologizing for taking up space.
