Training day one: reality bites
Carmen showed up at my dorm at 6:30am with a printed training schedule and this look in her eyes that said ‘I’m about to destroy you.’ She wasn’t kidding.

Training day one: reality bites
Apparently there’s a difference between ‘I run sometimes’ and ‘I’m training for a 5K race.’ The difference is intervals. And pain. So much pain. Carmen kept calling out these times and distances like she was some kind of drill sergeant while I just tried not to die on the campus trail.
But here’s the weird thing - I actually loved it? Like, my lungs were burning and my legs felt like jello, but there was something about having an actual plan and pushing myself harder than I ever do alone.

Post-run stretches with my training partner
Carmen says we’re doing this three times a week until the race in September. My body is already protesting but my competitive side is totally here for it.
Definitely updating the blog with our progress. If I’m gonna suffer through this training, at least I can document it for posterity (and maybe inspire someone else to torture themselves too).
