Baptism by fire
Turns out there’s a big difference between helping out during my interview and actually being responsible for the front desk during peak hours. Three separate people asked me about pool schedules I’d never heard of, someone’s key card wouldn’t scan and they got increasingly frustrated while I frantically called my supervisor, and I somehow managed to knock over an entire display of intramural flyers.

Jake showed up right as my shift ended, probably expecting to find me confidently handling everything like I always do. Instead he found me surrounded by paperwork I was still trying to figure out, looking like I’d been through a small tornado. The look on his face when he saw the chaos was priceless.
The good news is my supervisor says everyone’s first week is rough, and apparently I handled the key card crisis better than most new people do. The bad news is I have an anatomy quiz tomorrow that I was supposed to study for during my lunch break, which I spent learning how to work the scheduling software instead.

Balancing this job with nursing prerequisites is going to take some serious time management skills I’m not sure I have yet. But hey, at least I’m getting paid to figure it out.
