What broken heat teaches you
Three weeks without reliable heat and I learned more about Jake and me than I expected. Not the dramatic relationship-testing stuff you see in movies, but the small things that actually matter.

What broken heat teaches you
Like how he automatically started making coffee first thing every morning when our place was freezing, even though he’s normally not a morning person. How I stopped apologizing for wearing his hoodies constantly and just started leaving them in my drawer. How we figured out that our one space heater worked best in the bedroom, so we’d both end up doing our evening routines in there together—him reading, me stretching, completely comfortable in the same small space.
The crisis is over now, heat’s fixed, bills are manageable. But something shifted during those cold weeks. We stopped being polite about space and started being practical.

Finally reaching for that coffee before it goes completely cold.
I keep finding myself thinking about it, especially when I’m drinking my morning coffee in our warm living room. Sometimes the hard stuff teaches you that you’re more solid than you thought.
