Planning revelations

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Spread my notes from our anniversary weekend planning across the coffee table today and realized something.

Planning revelations

Planning revelations

We’ve been together over a year but this was the first time we’ve actually planned something big together - like, really planned it. Not just “want to go see that movie?” but booking places and coordinating schedules and making actual decisions about how we want to spend time.

Turns out Jake thinks about trips completely differently than I do. I’m making lists of hiking trails and restaurant options, he’s focused on whether the hotel has good WiFi and parking. Neither approach is wrong, but watching us navigate those differences over the past few weeks taught me things about us I didn’t know.

Weekend planning requires actual planning, apparently.

Weekend planning requires actual planning, apparently.

Like how he gets quiet when he’s thinking through logistics but I interpret quiet as disinterested. Or how I get excited and start talking fast about possibilities while he needs time to process options. We figured it out, obviously - the weekend’s all booked and I’m excited about our mountain town compromise. But the process itself was maybe more valuable than the actual plans.

Funny how something as simple as planning a weekend away can become a crash course in how you work together as a team. Good to know before we tackle anything bigger down the road.
